Buddhism
Culture Region- There are roughly 700 million buddhists in the world today and it is one of the fastest growing religions in the world. It's main belief is that one must throw away all earthly passions in order to reach Nirvana through the Eightfold Path. Reaching Nirvana is about finding peace and it is the goal of every single buddhist. Icons of this religion include the statue of Buddha as well as the Dharmachakra which represents the Eightfold Path.
Diffusion- For the most part, Buddhism hasn't spread all that much outside of Asia but thanks to modern technology, it is beginning to go worldwide. Buddhism hasn't broken up into any sects as of yet. Barriers to the spread of this religion include the fact that most of the monks take vows of silence so it is hard to spread this religion when the only ones that truly know it, can't speak. Geography also plays a huge factor in barricading the spread of this religion since there are many mountain ranges and oceans that separate those who practice Buddhism from the rest of the world. The biggest leader of this religion was Siddahartha Gautauma, also known as "Buddha".
Religious Ecology- Buddhists believe in a rebirth and thus they believe that the enviornment should be treated with respect.
Culture Integration- Buddhism has absolutely little to no effect on our culture. They have spread the beliefs in kharma and dharma but other than that, not much has spread to the West just yet. The key word is yet. Buddhism is coming.
Cultural Landscapes- The Mahabodhi temple is the place where Buddha reached Nirvana and the Bodhi tree has become the holiest place in Buddhism. Sitting under the tree, it is believed that one has the best chance of achieving Nirvana.
